“The French and the Europeans have never really shunned the Venice of Provence”, notes Xavier Feuillant from the Isle-sur-la-Sorgue tourist office. But he admits that foreign visitors are slowly starting to return: “we finally hear several languages spoken in the streets of the city center”. It should be added that with the return of the spring flea market, tourists aficionados of China as well as novices did not miss the appointment. In Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, near 1.5 million visitors pass each year.
In restaurants, hotels we expect a good season
At Islois restaurants, we feel a real return to normal. Cristopher Clareton, boss of Monsieur Tu on the banks of the Sorgue, runs during his service. He predicts a good season: “People put Covid behind themfor the moment we have a lot of foreigners at Easter but the locals remain loyal customers”. His establishment has only been open for a few months, he has no pre-pandemic comparison but he is expecting a large influx.
Attendance is already at its height in the region’s campsites. Emilie Hédiard is the manager of the Sorguette campsite in Isle-sur-le-Sorgue: “For Easter we are complete and _the diary of summer reservations is already filling up_“. An immense satisfaction for Emilie who managed to fill her establishment as soon as it reopened on March 15 with the lifting of health restrictions.
