(Ottawa) Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and members of his inner circle are expected to testify in the coming weeks at the federal inquiry into foreign interference.
A recently released provisional witness list for the next phase of the inquiry’s public hearing indicates that senior government officials and members of national security agencies will also testify.
Mr. Trudeau and key government officials participated in the commission’s first hearings earlier this year into allegations of foreign interference in the 2019 and 2021 federal elections.
Commissioner Marie-Josée Hogue’s initial report, released in May, concluded that China’s foreign interference had no impact on the overall results of the two general elections.
Justice Hogue said that while the results in a small number of constituencies may have been affected by foreign interference, that could not be said with certainty.
In the second part of the fact-finding phase of the committee’s work, public hearings scheduled to begin Monday will focus on the ability of federal agencies to detect, deter and counter foreign interference.
