A small majority of French people (52%) nevertheless expect Michel Barnier to succeed in forming a “unifying government”.

An appointment that has largely displeased. Three out of four French people surveyed believe that Emmanuel Macron did not take into account the results of the legislative elections, by appointing LR Michel Barnier to Matignon, according to an Elabe poll for BFMTV, published on Friday, September 6.
According to this opinion poll, 74% of French people questioned believe that Emmanuel Macron did not take into account the results of the legislative elections, against 26% who think the opposite. 40% consider the appointment of Michel Barnier as “a good thing for the country”compared to 29% for whom it is“a bad thing”.
Opinion is divided on Michel Barnier’s ability to avoid a motion of censure (50% no, against 48% yes). A large majority (73%) approves of the RN’s positioning of “judge on the evidence” before deciding to censure the government. A small majority of French people (52%) expect Michel Barnier to succeed in forming a “rally government”, and a large majority (76%) want him to stay “as autonomous as possible in his decision-making, even if it means sometimes opposing Emmanuel Macron”.
More than half of those surveyed (55%) even said they agreed with the comments of the founder of La France Insoumise (LFI) Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who accused the head of state of having “stole the election from the French people”reveals this opinion poll. A small majority thus said they were in favour of a motion to dismiss the head of state.
The French prefer that future ministers come from civil society and that they do not belong to any party (74%), while a small majority wants them to come from the PS (56%) and the Republicans (53%), and only 43% from the presidential camp.
This survey was conducted on Thursday and Friday online, with a sample of 1,007 people, representative of residents of mainland France aged 18 and over, according to the quota method. The margin of error is between 1.4 and 3.1 points.
