Inflation has reached 3.6% in February, and INSEE expects more than 4% for the month of March. The 20 Hours therefore went to see how this was reflected on the shelves of supermarkets.
On supermarket shelves, prices continue to escalate. Le 20 Heures raised the prices of 31 everyday consumer products. The largest increase in March was in coffee, with an increase of 3% due to a bad harvest in Brazil. Poor harvest also for olive oil, which increased by 2%. Eggs also increased by 2%because the cost of chicken feed increases.
According to Emmanuel Cannes, expert on the subject, price increases “should continue in the coming months, effectively linked to the final application of trade negotiations and the consequences of the crisis in Ukraine”. Products of first prize also flambé: over a year, pasta has increased by 42%. Flour, sugar and canned vegetables increased by 8% over a year. Of the 31 products tested by 20 Heures, 29 are increasing and only two are decreasing.
