Sales ofapricotspeaches and nectarines soar in July. These fruits are cheaper than last year, because their harvests are abundant.

Juicy and sweet, apricotspeaches and nectarines are the star fruits of summer. Last weekend, sales reached record levels in France: 3,000 tonnes of these fruits were sold in two days. A craze which is confirmed on a Parisian market, on the morning of Tuesday July 12. In orchards near Salon-de-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhone)the nectarine harvest is in full swing, and the quality is there this summer, thanks in part to the high temperatures of the last few weeks.

Here, the harvest of apricots end. There are a little less than last year, but again the quality is superior. Frost and hail have almost spared the area, unlike the Spanish orchards which suffered a lot. On leaving the farms, the kilo ofapricots or peaches costs just over two euros. It’s a little cheaper than last year. The arrival of a new heat wave should confirm the appetite of the French for these refreshing fruits.
