“We could have done this by videoconference, that way we wouldn’t put anyone in danger and our colleagues would still be alive”declared Tuesday May 14 to France Culture Emmanuel Baudin, secretary general FO Justice, after the death of two prison officers in Eure in the attack on a van which was transporting an inmate to go to a court in order to be heard by a magistrate.

“We have been claiming it for several yearsexplains the unionist. Today, to be able to do that, the detainee must agree, just like his lawyer, the judge must accept it.”. According to him, “we must be able to impose it on audiences”.

Emmanuel Baudin also ensures that“we could limit extractions on certain procedures” and that, in this specific case, “the magistrate could have moved”. “Sometimes, we take people out to sign divorce papers, we have other things to do and we can do otherwise. We must limit these extractions as much as possible to avoid this type of drama”.
