Florida | Man arrested for threats against Biden

(Miami) A man has been arrested in Florida for making threats against Joe Biden, days after an assassination attempt on his Republican rival Donald Trump sparked widespread criticism of security services, authorities said Wednesday.

The 39-year-old, from Quincy, Florida, was arrested for “sending threatening messages and making threats against President Joe Biden and other federal officials,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement.

Prosecutors say the man posted his threats online and also made them while he was admitted to a psychiatric facility last month. He was arrested Monday and remanded in custody pending trial.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was the target of gunfire during an outdoor rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

One rally-goer was killed and the shooter was shot dead by snipers from the Secret Service, which protects senior US political figures.

Since then, this security service has been the subject of much criticism.

Democratic President Joe Biden, who is seeking re-election, has ordered an independent investigation to determine how a gunman came so close to the former president.
