At least 5 people have died and thousands more have been evacuated in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. The floods follow heavy rains.
The North of Italy is drowned under water. For 30 years, we had not seen so much precipitation in the Emilia-Romagna region. In 24 hours, 15 centimeters of rain fell on the province, causing the Savio River, and 14 other rivers to burst their banks. The inhabitants are stunned by the magnitude of this deluge.
More rain this weekend
According to the authorities, several deaths and injuries are already to be deplored. 5,000 people had to be evacuated. Many roads have been closed. Predictable flooding for some residents “All these houses are below the level of the dike”, explains a resident. It should still rain until the middle of the night. The rains are expected to resume this weekend.
