(Ottawa) Canada announces $5 million in aid to support groups helping people displaced in Libya following catastrophic flooding.
International Development Minister Ahmed Hussen said the money would help provide emergency health care, water and shelter to northeast Libya through organizations such as the of the United Nations and the Red Crescent.
The flooding began last Sunday, when the storm Daniel caused dams to break.
Some 10,000 people are missing and presumed dead in a disaster that has already claimed more than 11,000 lives.
Libyan authorities warned Friday that waterborne diseases and explosive munitions displaced during floods could cause even more deaths.
