Floods in Gaspésie | Traffic obstructed at three locations on Route 132

(Gaspé) Automobile traffic was alternating at three locations on Route 132 on Wednesday evening, in Haute-Gaspésie, east of Gros-Morne, due to damage to the roadway by water.

In Gros-Morne, the constraint is attributable to a break in the road. Between Sainte-Madeleine-de-la-Rivière-Madeleine and Grande-Vallée, an accumulation of water caused alternating traffic, while it was the erosion of the roadway that forced the authorities to reduce traffic to height rue de Belle-Anse, in Percé.

Another road break caused the closure of a traffic lane on Route 197 in Gaspé, for an indefinite period.

Haute-Gaspésie suffered heavy rain earlier this week, but it slowed down on Wednesday. For Thursday and Friday, Environment Canada is forecasting only intermittent rain or drizzle.

The municipal authorities of Gaspé reported at the end of the afternoon, Wednesday, that the level of the Darmouth, Renard and Anse-au-Griffon rivers had decreased and that the overflows were gradually being absorbed. The Saint John and York rivers remained under control, but several small streams caused damage, particularly to culverts.

In the Gaspé region, eight residences were isolated at one time or another and two had to be evacuated.

The City of Gaspé invites the population to be vigilant, because culverts may have been damaged and roads may have collapsed.
