The North and East are still placed on orange alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms. The West remains on yellow alert. Last night, 200 to 400mm of rain was recorded in 12 hours.
This afternoon, heavy and lasting rains continue along the northeast and northern foothills of the island. These sustained rains will extend towards the North-West, the heights of Saint-Paul and La Possession.
The West should therefore expect heavy rainfall in the coming hours. Enough to thwart hiking plans for the weekend.

Only the southwest coast should remain relatively sheltered and retain some clearings.
The ongoing precipitation in the North and East is leading to a rise in the water level on the Saint-Denis River, the Pluies River, and the Sainte-Suzanne River, which are on yellow alert, as is the large Saint River. -Jean and the Little Saint-Jean River.
Be careful near watercourses, gullies and riffles, where sudden rises in water levels can occur.
In Sainte-Suzanne, but also Sainte-Marie and La Bretagne in Saint-Denis, several roads are flooded, particularly in Hauts.
This morning, the rain surprised residents of Brittany. Chemins Montauban and Chemins du Jardin are impassable. The Ravine Cadet bridge is submerged.
On the Salazie road, in the Bras Citronnier sector, a rock the size of a basketball fell on the hood of a car late in the morning. There were no injuries.
Small rocks also fell on the Saint-François road and the Mountain Road. Be careful if you are on the roads.
Faced with these bad weather, the town hall of Sainte-Suzanne announced that the primary schools of Commune Ango and Commune Carron will remain closed this Friday, November 3.
In Sainte-Suzanne, the rain has been falling continuously since yesterday evening. The Niagara waterfall is very fed.
This morning, Chemin Marancourt, the road leading to Niagara Falls was blocked as a safety measure.
In a press release published this morning, the prefecture of Reunion calls for caution and once again gives the instructions to follow in the event of heavy rain:
- I move away from waterways and low points, I reach a high point where I take shelter upstairs.
- I do not take a submerged road, even partially.
- I avoid moving around.
- I keep myself informed and monitor the rising waters.
- I put my belongings out of the water and locate my emergency kit.
- I pay attention to tap water: don’t forget that it can remain unfit for consumption for at least 48 hours after the rain stops.
