Solutions for better support for the elderly exist. This is the case of flatshares for seniors, which allow for tailor-made support.
Shared accommodation for seniors is what an establishment in Pouilley-les-Vignes (Doubs) offers. Everyone is free, the most autonomous even help with meals. The idea? Make senior housemates feel useful. This is the credo of this somewhat special flatshare, which has been welcoming elderly people for more than nine years. In this establishment, we are not talking about nursing homes. Residents can come with their own furniture. Some of the carers who help them live on site. In the event of an emergency at night, the on-call person can act immediately.
As in any roommate, meals are taken in the common room. In-room dining is only accepted if the person is ill. The last boarder to arrive is Antoinette. Her daughter does not regret her choice: “Mom was in nursing home for four and a half months […] with a system that we didn’t like at all, so we removed it.” Furthermore, she is delighted that the auxiliaries “pamper” the boarders as if “it was their own daughters”. Cost level, families are also found there: count 1,600 euros per month on average, against 2,000 euros in Ehpad.
