Premier League clubs will be able to make five substitutions per game from the 2022/23 season, the Premier League announced in a statement on Thursday (31 March).
“From next season clubs will be allowed to use five substitutions, to be made three times during a match, with an additional possibility at half-time“, said the Premier League.
Premier League Shareholders put today and discussed a range of matters.
Clubs agreed to change the rules relating to substitute players. From next season, clubs will be permitted to use five substitutions.

English clubs had already experimented with this new rule at the end of the 2019/20 season due to the backlog of matches caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, unlike other European championships and competitions, the rule had returned to three changes so as not to favor teams with a larger workforce.
