Five people were injured in an explosion that occurred this Wednesday at the Butachimie company in Chalampé (Haut-Rhin), classified Seveso, confirms the Haut-Rhin prefecture to France Bleu Alsace.

The incident took place in a retention pit, located in a production workshop of this Seveso-classified company. The company immediately put in place the measures provided for in its internal operation plan (POI) with regard to personal assistance.

Analytical work to understand the reasons for the explosion

The prefecture, the gendarmerie and the Haut-Rhin firefighters made a “close follow-up” of the company, “first to help the wounded”Then “to assess all possible environmental issues and remove doubts”.

According to the prefecture, seven people were affected, indicates France Bleu Alsace, including five slightly injured. Two people, witnesses of the scene, were shocked, and also taken care of by the emergency services.

The question now is whether the explosion will have any consequences for the environment. “An analysis work is now in place to better understand the reasons for this incident.“, indicates the prefecture which specifies that according to the first elements, “there is no danger for the population“.
