Five German hooligans arrested after Nice-Cologne incidents

Several weeks after the events, the German police arrested German suspects on Wednesday, suspected of having participated in the serious incidents which injured 32 people before the match between OGC Nice and Cologne.

All in all, the German authorities carried out 16 searches, in and around Cologne. More than 400 members of the security forces were mobilized. Among the suspects searched are three repeat offenders. The five arrested were also targeted by arrest warrants.

These searches were carried out the day before a match for Cologne, which is to face Belgrade on Thursday. A date deliberately chosen to send a “clear and dissuasive signalaccording to local police chief Falk Schnabel.

Batons and a machete were seized from several homes, along with the phones of the suspects. Because according to Michael Esser, head of the judicial police, the German police do not count “stop there“.

Video surveillance images and social networks

During a press conference on Wednesday, German investigators indicated that these are the images provided by the cameras of the Allianz Riviera, but also those of the many videos published on social networks which allowed them to trace the suspects.
The day after the match, a Cologne police information portal was set up. 800 files including 600 videos have been uploaded there. 14 investigators are mobilized in what the Germans call “the Nice commission of inquiry”.

As a reminder, OGC Nice received a closed session
for the reception of the Czechs FC Slovacko during the 4th day of the Europa Conference League, on October 13th. Aiglons supporters are also banned from traveling this Thursday, for the match in the Czech Republic.

FC Cologne was fined 100,000 euros. His supporters are also prohibited from making the planned trips to Europe.
