first confirmed case of monkeypox in a child

Just over a month after the first confirmed case on French territory, the ARS, regional health agency, of Île-de-France, indicates this Saturday that a child has contracted monkey pox. This first case comes from a child attending primary school. He shows no signs of seriousness. “A probable case has been identified within the same siblings“, specifies the ARS.

the Regional Agency recommends, for children in contact cases, to “monitor the appearance of symptoms (fever, rash) and call 15 if necessary”, and to “See offering a consultation in order to have the child benefit from a vaccination if it is deemed necessary by the doctor”.

227 adult cases in Île-de-France

The Monkeypox, had then affected only adults in France. 330 cases have been confirmed by Public Health France so far, including 227 for the Île-de-France region alone. As a reminder, monkey pox is an infectious and contagious disease discovered in 1958 in Denmark in crab-eating macaques from Singapore. This disease is very similar to human smallpox, but it is much less dangerous.
