Klô Pelgag continued his Felix harvest on Wednesday evening during the First ADISQ gala hosted by Pierre Lapointe, which was pre-recorded without an audience for the second year in a row. The singer-songwriter ended the evening with four trophies, as Charlotte Cardin won her first three career Felixes.
It’s a real Klô Pelgag tidal wave that is sweeping through this year, as these four new Félixes join the seven she and her team have already won at the Industry Gala on Monday. Cited in 16 categories this year, as many for her album Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows only for his virtual show To live, she received this week 11 trophies out of a possible 13.
Broadcast on Télé-Québec, the Premier gala did not take place live because of health restrictions, just like last year. All the performances were therefore pre-recorded at MTelus, without an audience, and as regards the announcement of the results, the host Pierre Lapointe filmed in advance a segment where he proclaimed the winner of all the artists competing in each category. The finalists, for their part, had all recorded thanks in advance … in case they won.
The magic of the editing did the rest when it aired on Wednesday, so the artists really learned along with the audience who the winners were. Result: some acknowledgments may have seemed lacking in naturalness or spontaneity, which is a bit inevitable in such a context. But most of them played the game as sincerely as possible.
Musical performances
The Premier Gala was a great opportunity to hear emerging artists, who haven’t had much of a chance to perform on stage since the start of the pandemic.
“Tonight we are celebrating music in all its forms, we are building a bridge between generations and making room for the next generation who need visibility,” said the always elegant Pierre Lapointe at the opening of the show, surrounded by Ariane Moffatt and Louis-Jean Cormier.
The three veterans then presented a generous opening number with Robert Robert, Gab Bouchard, Ariane Roy and Lumière, four worthy representatives of the next generation that we should see again in the coming years – special mention to the spectacular and theatrical Lumière.
Among the numbers, let us note this explosive duo formed by the mysterious Laurence-Anne and Antoine Corriveau. The very cool Comment Debord, a septet made up of four boys and three girls, have certainly made new friends, just like Thierry Larose-lui and Comment Debord are in the running for the Revelation of the Year on Sunday. We also discovered the female rap collective @Rappelles, and Ramon Chicharron, also recipient of the Félix for the album Musique du monde.
21 awards
It was therefore Klô Pelgag who won the most trophies on Wednesday evening, i.e. Alternative Album, Critics’ Choice, International Collaboration (his duet with Apple for the song Witches), as well as Video, given to Soleil Denault for the impactful clip Melamine.
The only one who escaped him is Artist with the most influence outside Quebec, who went instead to Charlotte Cardin, the other big winner of the evening who also won Anglophone Album and Anglophone Online Show – we also wonder why at at least one of these two categories was not found at the grand gala on Sunday.
“The shooting of the show The Phoenix Experience has been one of the most creatively stimulating projects of my career. Knowing that you liked it, it’s a great honor, “said the singer-songwriter, who is very anxious to find her audience in 2022.” I miss you and I love you. ”
Roxane Bruneau collected two trophies, for Album pop and Album – Succès populaire. “I’m just going to say thank you. It’s thanks to you that my music spreads like this, ”she said in her thanks.
In all, 21 Felixes were awarded on Wednesday, in a wide variety of categories. The following were awarded: Marie Davidson & l’œil nu (Album-Other languages), Charles Richard-Hamelin and Andrew Wan (Classical-Soloist and small ensemble), Vincent Vallières (Folk), Jordan Officer (Jazz), CRi (Electronic music ), Ramon Chicharron (World Music), the OSM and Harmonium (Reinterpretation), Les Cowboys Fringants who won their 18e Félix en 25 ans (Rock), Bon Débarras (Traditional), Ari Cui Cui (Album or DVD-Jeunesse), and Yvon Deschamps for his show of 85e anniversary (Online show – humor).
“Retired for more than 10 years and I’m still winning trophies!” Laughed the venerable comedian. And one of the oldest who wins an award for one of the newest technologies as well. Imagine, we had 20,000 admissions, we would have filled the Bell Center! ”
Finally, in the brand new category Artist having most illustrated on the web, it is no surprise Damien Robitaille who stood out among the ten finalists. He thus won his first Felix in life.
Sunday
On Sunday, 12 trophies will be presented at the gala hosted by Louis-José Houde, which will take place live from Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier. This evening will be especially marked by a return of the public, which should do good in terms of atmosphere.
As for Klô Pelgag, she will have the opportunity to add three other trophies to her already full basket, but we can already say that the year 2021 belongs to her.
