Every year, a hundred scouts from all over France patrol the creeks in Marseille every day. (Bouches-du-Rhone) to prevent the risk of fire.

Younger children can actively engage in firefighting. Near the creeks of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhone)scouts monitor the forest massifs to spot any outbreak of fire. Butts, suspicious presence, teenagers track down all anomalies, while raising awareness among the population. This is a very valuable aid for firefighters. They are between 14 and 17 years old and, every day, about a hundred come from all over France to patrol. “They know that these creeks and this heritage must be monitored. They are aware of that”explains Nicholas pagnoncoordinator of the scout camp of Luminy.

For the firefighters of Marseille, this support from the scouts every summer for 40 years is more than precious. Thanks to the young people, their interventions for vegetation fires fell by 20% compared to the previous year. The merit goes to the scouts who carry out prevention on a daily basis with walkers.
