Surveillance is in order, two and a half years after the gigantic fires that ravaged more than 30,000 hectares. The police, equipped with their drone, and the agents of the National Forestry Office (ONF) are patrolling.
To remind people of the rules to follow in the forest in La-Teste-de-Buche, in Gironde, ONF agents go directly to meet holidaymakers. “Night parking is prohibited, use of fire is prohibited”he explains to tourists in camper vans. “When we don’t do things, when we don’t prevent, we do anything and we lose a heritage that will take years to rebuild.”comments the holidaymaker.
Each year, the ONF issues around 150 fines. “When we have people who have barbecues, we are more likely to be repressed. We really have a risk.” continues Mathieu Brugère, territorial forestry technician at the ONF. To track down dangerous behavior, the ONF works with the police, who are equipped with a drone.
