National Assembly: fierce battles in elections for key positions
National Assembly: fierce battles in elections for key positions
(France 2)

Like Friday, Saturday, July 20 promises to be a tense day in the National Assembly. The day before, the three main political forces in the chamber competed to obtain key strategic positions.

Saturday, July 20, could be as stormy as the previous day at the National Assembly. On Friday, some denounced ballot stuffing in the first round of the election of the vice-presidents of the chamber. 10 envelopes too many had been placed in the ballot boxes – an unprecedented event that sparked indignation in the ranks of the left.

The election results ultimately held some surprises, with the election of two rebellious deputies, two members of the Republican right, and two elected members of the presidential camp. No RN deputy appears in it. Gérald Darmanin, deputy of the North, considered that LFI had been elected “with the voices of the National Rally“. During the night, a new twist: in a chamber emptied of Macronists, the New Popular Front obtained an absolute majority within the bureau of the Assembly.
