The Toulousains of Fénix Handball achieved a real feat this Sunday at the Palais des sports in Toulouse. They managed to beat PSG, eight-time reigning French champions and undefeated in the league since April 2021. Victory 35 to 27 during the third day of Starligue still led by Nantes, the only undefeated team after their success against Ivry (33-28).
Serbian international Nemanja Ilic (nine goals) and Spanish center-half Erik Balenciaga (eight goals) carried Toulouse against amorphous, clumsy Parisians (52% success) and neglected by their Swedish goalkeeper Andreas Palicka (three saves only), yet voted best goalkeeper of the 2021 World Championship.
Last season, PSG set a record by winning all of their league matches. PSG’s last defeat dated back to the previous season, on April 25, 2021 against Nantes at home (25-24). Nikola Karabatic’s teammates (zero goals) slip to fifth place in the standings with 4 points, tied with Limoges (4th), Montpellier (3rd) and Toulouse (2nd), and two points behind leader Nantes.
