Far-right YouTuber Papacito placed in police custody after broadcasting videos threatening a mayor

The influencer faces up to 7 years and a fine of 45,000 euros.

The YouTuber far-right Papacito, from his real name is Ugo Gil Jimenezwas placed in police custody on Tuesday, December 12, as part of an investigation by the OCLCH (Central Office for the Fight against Crimes Against Humanity and Online Hate), after the broadcast of videos threatening the mayor of Montjoi, the Paris prosecutor’s office announced to franceinfo, confirming information from Release.

Papacito faces up to 7 years and a fine of 45,000 euros for “provocation not followed by effect to a deliberate attack on life”. The investigation also concerns facts of “provocation to hatred based on origin” and D’“public insults based on sexual orientation”for which he faces 1 year of imprisonment and a fine of 45,000 euros, specifies the Paris prosecutor’s office.

Youtube banned the far-right influencer’s channel last June, recalling in a press release that “harassment and cyberbullying are not allowed” on its platform. Papacito had already become known a few years earlier for having simulated the execution of an LFI voter, arousing the indignation of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, but the support of Eric Zemmour. The Paris prosecutor’s office then opened an investigation to “provocation” to murder.
