King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia as well as their daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía, were in Oviedo this weekend for the official reception of the Princess of Asturias Awards 2023, which this year receives an American personality at the International fame. And the moment that everyone was waiting for was that of the meeting between Queen Letizia and actress Meryl Streep, winner of the 2023 Arts Prize.
Letizia from Spain, Meryl Streep’s biggest fan?
The two women were accomplices and exchanged laughs together on October 20, 2023. The event took place in the Covadonga room of the Hotel de la Reconquista in Oviedo. One by one, the winners of the prize in several categories (scientific research, arts, sports, social sciences, letters) greeted the royal family. And Meryl Streep was among them.
Queen Letizia (dressed in a pink Hugo Boss suit) had already expressed her desire to meet Meryl Streep barely a week ago. A former journalist, she encouraged her colleagues to interview the illustrious actress during her stay in Spain. She even joked about entertaining her by dancing to one of the songs from “Mamma Mia!”one of his most iconic films.
The last time Letizia attended the event?
A meeting which could not have taken place since this year, we learned that this is the last edition of the prize where Princess Léonor will be surrounded by the royal couple. From next year, the young woman will come of age on October 31 and will be able to lead this event alone, with the sole company of her sister, Infanta Sofía, who took a break from her training in Wales to be present this Friday at the gala. Letizia was lucky!
