Czech conductor Libor Pesek, who led the Liverpool Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for a decade, has died aged 89, the Czech Culture Minister announced on Monday (October 24th).

One of the most prominent Czech conductors, Libor Pesek, has died“, announced Minister Martin Baxa in a tweet. His death dates back to Sunday, according to the Czech press.

Pesek, born in Prague in 1933, was the conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra between 1987 and 1997. He has also conducted orchestras in the Netherlands and was conductor of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra between 1981 and 1990. In 1996 he was made a Knight Commander of the British Empire by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
