Fall asleep faster thanks to the military method

The consequences of lack of sleep can be significant.

“Lack of sleep is associated with higher rates of death, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, mental and cognitive disorders, and accidents and injuries,” says Statistics Canada.

Thanks to this method, you could fall asleep faster in seven steps.

1. Relax all the muscles in your face, including your tongue and jaw.

2. Release the tension in your shoulders and drop your arms to your sides.

3. Exhale, relax your whole body and focus on your breathing.

4. Vacuum for 10 seconds. If you’re struggling, try repeating the words “don’t think” to yourself for 10 seconds.

5. Within 10 seconds you should already be starting to fall asleep, but at first the process can take up to two minutes.

This technique was developed to help soldiers fall asleep quickly, minimizing the risk of error when on duty.

According to Statistics Canada, “about one in four Canadians was not satisfied with their sleep in the years leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic. 10% to 15% of Canadians reported having symptoms of insomnia related to daytime consequences, while 6% to 10% met the criteria for insomnia-associated disorders.
