Jeffrey Cagnes, pastry chef and founder of Maison Jeffrey Cagnes Paris, and Charles Znaty, director of the Dengo chocolate brand, are the guests of 12/13 info, Wednesday March 27. Can we sell or make chocolate responsibly today?

Fair trade chocolate, “obviously more expensive”East “a luxury product”, recognizes Charles Znaty, director of the Dengo chocolate brand. Although it is also more expensive for the consumer, it is not, however, “not necessarily more profitable for farmers who grow cocoa”would like to point out Charles Znaty, who would like to see this question addressed more often. “When the price is at $10,000 (…) there is a form of speculation”he adds.

Between 300,000 and a million children work on chocolate plantations

Between 300,000 and one million children work on chocolate plantations in Ivory Coast alone. It is therefore partly for “change the world of chocolate” that Charles Znaty says he launched his responsible brand. “Last year, we worked with 203 plantations, for which we paid on average 105% of the price of the raw material, that is to say a little more than double the price of the raw material”he explains.

The chocolatier Jeffrey Cagnes, for his part, also says he is concerned about these questions. “I don’t buy the bean, and I know all the work that goes into it. We can only be sensitive”he assures, before qualifying: “For my part, who am a young entrepreneur, I cannot work like that, because it puts myself in danger.”
