A court-ordered psychiatric evaluation has concluded that the man accused of murdering two women and seriously injuring a third during a knife attack in Vaudreuil-Dorion is not currently fit to stand trial.
A judge on Thursday ordered Fabio Puglisi to spend 30 days in treatment at a psychiatric hospital before another decision is made on whether he is fit to appear in court.
Puglisi, 44, was charged last week with two counts of second-degree murder for the killing of his 68-year-old mother and a 53-year-old neighbor in a condo tower in Vaudreuil-Dorion, in Montérégie.
Puglisi was also charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault against a 70-year-old woman who was taken to hospital in critical condition last Thursday but survived.
Court documents show Fabio Puglisi has a long history of mental illness and was twice found not criminally responsible for offenses in 2012 and 2020.
The Crown requested a 30-day treatment period, which was also recommended by the doctor who performed the court-ordered psychiatric evaluation requested by the defense.
The case will return to court on March 25.
