Eye of the Tiger Management Gala | Mary Spencer makes a name for herself in Montreal

Mary Spencer seems set for glory. The adopted Montrealer made short work of Chris Namus on Thursday night at the Casino de Montréal.

The Ontario native (6-0, 4 KOs) knocked the Uruguayan (25-9, 8 KOs) down three times in the first round. The brawl lasted 1 min 56 s.

“It’s perfect, she commented after the fight, a smile on her lips at ringside. I was able to have fun. I wasn’t there just to lose my mind and try to knock him down. »

Yet that’s what she did. And this, from the first seconds of engagement.

The 37-year-old Canadian therefore remains undefeated in six professional fights. We feel that a world championship fight will not be long in his case, as his strike force and his domination in the ring attract attention.

Especially since Chris Namus, former IBF world champion, is not the least of the opponents.

But Mary Spencer fears no one.

“I’m sure no matter who I’m up against, I’ll be able to take it,” she says. The question is rather whether my opponents will be able to take my strikes! »

The native of Wiarton, Ontario, has come a long way. She had given up boxing after the London Olympics in 2012. Then she rediscovered her passion in recent years. And not just a little.

“I put the gloves on again because the fire inside me was too strong. I’ll keep going until my heart and mind tell me enough is enough. Or until my doctor tells me to stop! »

Yves Ulysse wants to “get serious”

Yves Ulysses Jr.

Yves Ulysse junior wants to “get back to the top”. His Thursday night win over Argentina’s Reuquen Cona Facundo Arce earns him, he says, a fight of the greatest magnitude.

Ulysse (21-2, 12 K.-O.) won by K.-O. in the third round.

When asked what he wants for the rest of his career, the Quebecer is categorical.

“A world championship fight,” he replies. I’m tired of playing in the schoolyard. I’ve always wanted the biggest challenges since I joined the pros. »

He then refers to his winding journey, hampered among other things by a defeat against Ismael Barroso in 2019.

“I fell and I got up. I had a pitfall, I came back stronger. »

Oganesyan loses his title

Artem Oganesyan

Montrealer Artem Oganesyan had to give up his NABF welterweight title on Thursday night. The Mexican Dante Jardón took it from him by being dominant from the beginning to the end of the 10 rounds.

However, we did not expect this fight to go to the limit when we saw Oganesyan go to the mat in the very first round. Yet that is what he forced Jardón to do.

Oganesyan was on the defensive the majority of the fight. The Mexican harassed him constantly trying to keep the fight in hand-to-hand combat. But the volume, it was too much for the protege of Eye of the Tiger Management.

Oganesyan got his belt last March.

Leila Beaudoin wants to keep up the pace

Leila Beaudoin and Amel Anouar

Leila Beaudoin continues the fights. And the victories. She won by unanimous decision against the French Amel Anouar (2-3-1) in the super-feathers, Thursday, during her third fight in four months.

“Everything we worked on in the gym, I applied it tonight, commented the pugilist at ringside afterwards. […] I was precise in my attacks and often hit the target. »

The Témiscouataine (6-0, 1 KO) has therefore remained undefeated in six matches since the start of his career in 2019.

She has not yet said her last word this year, because she wants to “add more strings to her bow”.

“I haven’t finished boxing in 2022, that’s for sure! »

An under-card show

Avery Martin-Duval (7-0-1, 4 KOs) and Luis Reyes Carmona (9-2-1, 2 KOs) had one of the good fights on the undercard, which ended with a victory for the local favorite. The unanimous decision could have gone either way.

As a curtain raiser, Montrealer Hamza Khabbaz won by unanimous decision over Marco Chino Villa. The Mexican offered respectable opposition in a fight where the defense was left out.

Luis Santana (6-0, 2 KOs), also from Montreal, won against Sergio Hernandez Cruz (8-1-1, 6 KOs). A unanimous decision after six hotly contested rounds.
