A motorist who was driving at 190 km/h on Highway 15 in Montreal received a $2,155 ticket on Wednesday with 24 demerit points.
Police intercepted the driver, a 27-year-old man, around 4 a.m. Wednesday. In this area, the maximum speed permitted by law is 70 km/h.
In addition to the infraction, his driving license was suspended for a period of 7 days.
The Sûreté du Québec recalled in a press release that speed is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions to occur on Quebec roads.
