In a press release issued Thursday, Dawson College expressed its “great disappointment” with the withdrawal of Quebec in its infrastructure project, announced last week. The English-speaking CEGEP urges the government to reconsider its position.

“The new building is essential to significantly improving the learning environment for current students,” said Michael Goldwax, Chair of the Dawson College Board of Trustees.

On Wednesday, the board of directors adopted a resolution emphasizing “the importance and the need for the file to be treated in a fair and equitable manner according to the ministerial standards in force”. The college recalls that the government had approved this project, the cost of which is estimated at 100 million. The file had even been included in the infrastructure projects to be carried out on an accelerated basis.

“Dawson’s space deficit has been recognized by the Ministry of Advanced Education. This recognition is based on specific standards that are applied to all CEGEPs,” points out Mr. Goldwax.

Dawson College denies wanting to increase the number of students with this expansion project which will accommodate seven health programs and a clinic-school, and claims to have always respected its admissions ceiling.

Premier François Legault said in a recent press briefing that he wanted to prioritize the expansion of French-speaking CEGEPs.
