“I am shocked by the speed and the conditions in which this decision, disrespectful of my rights and my person, was taken. I am saddened to see ‘Les Républicains’ renouncing the values of justice, first and foremost the presumption of innocence (…) I am deeply hurt by the violence of the comments made against me”. In a message published Thursday, October 13 on Facebook, the mayor of Saint-Étienne Gaël Perdriau, mired in a case of intimate video blackmail and freshly excluded from the Republicans, announced that he was filing a complaint against his former party for “defamation” and against Éric Ciotti for “public insults”.

Two days earlier, Gaël Perdriau had been unanimously expelled during a political office of LR. This decision is without surprise, the party having launched the procedure of exclusion of the mayor of 50 years on September 13 after the series of revelations of Mediapart on a blackmail with the sex tape.

The October 12, pSeveral elected officials from the Loire department, from all political persuasions, have also asked Gaël Perdriau “to resign from his mandates”, according to a press release. For these elected officials, this is a situation “grotesque” that “crosses the city of Saint-Etienne and its agglomeration for more than a month”.
