The two men had an altercation in front of the Nashville Predators net on Sunday, and Malkin served a hard cross-check directly in the face of the Predators defenseman.

Borowiecki had retreated to the locker room with his bloodied face.

The Russian striker has only played 37 games since the start of the season. He had 17 goals and 20 assists for 37 points.
