Despite abundant encouragement from the Villepinte hall, the Frenchwoman, who had revealed herself in Brazil in 2016, was unable to recover from a penalty in the second round, Saturday July 27, during the Olympic Games boxing tournament, in the under 60 kilos category. The American was declared the winner by a majority of four judges.
At 31, the woman who was the first French woman to become Olympic and then world champion, was perhaps fighting her last Olympic fight. Even though she valiantly defended her chances, Mossely, handicapped by a truncated preparation, clearly lacked the lucidity and punch to trouble Gonzalez’s defense.
