Guadeloupe is affected by a lot of violence, while some are demonstrating against the health pass. Acts which led the prefect, Friday, November 19, to apply a curfew on the island.

A curfew has been in place since Friday, November 19 in Guadeloupe for the entire population, as a consequence of the violence observed for several days across the island. The demonstrators continue their resistance, allowing only rare emergency vehicles to pass on the roads, barricaded with shrubs and barriers. In town, the damage is numerous, causing incomprehension among the population. “I don’t see the connection with burning down a store, I can’t understand”, says a woman.

To avoid new tensions and the increase in violence, the prefect of Guadeloupe has therefore decided to impose a curfew on the inhabitants, between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m., until Tuesday, November 23. “It is important that we can restore order. The curfew is one of the instruments that make it possible to do so.”, explained Alexandre Rochatte, prefect of the island. The arrival of 200 police and gendarmes on the island should also help restore order.
