April 10: Time to Declare Your 2024 Income

The annual income declaration season is just around the corner, kicking off on Thursday, April 10, 2025. While the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP) has yet to release the complete schedule for this year’s campaign, they have confirmed this crucial date. On the same day, a press conference will be held to provide insights and updates about the 2025 tax filing process.

Make sure to mark your calendar to declare your income on the official website, impots.gouv.fr!

Important Deadlines: May to September

Late May to Early June: Declaration Submission Deadlines

The specific deadlines for submitting your income declaration will be disclosed on April 10. However, you can anticipate that you’ll need to finalize or update your declaration online via impots.gouv.fr or the Impots.gouv mobile app by late May to early June. Traditionally, departments numbered 1 to 19 have an earlier deadline around May 22, followed by other regions, with the Paris area and departments numbered 55 and above facing a June deadline. For those few who may still submit paper declarations, the deadline typically falls around May 20.

End of June: Access to the Declaration Form Closes

After the deadlines, the online declaration form remains open for corrections of any inaccuracies or omissions. However, be aware that access to the form will close by the end of June or early July.

Late July to Late August: Tax Notice Dispatch

Expect your tax notices to be sent out during this traditional window. The exact dates will be confirmed at the campaign kickoff on April 10.

End of July/Early August: Refunds for Overpayments

If you’ve overpaid your taxes, the DGFiP will initiate refunds around the end of July to early August. Most of your income tax for 2024 would have been deducted at the source throughout the year, and any over-withholding will be returned via bank transfer to the account you provided during your declaration.

Beginning of August: Online Correction Service Opens

If you discover an error or omission, don’t worry! The DGFiP launches its online correction service at the start of August, allowing you to amend your declaration until the first half of December.

September 1: New Withholding Tax Rate Takes Effect

On September 1, your withholding tax rate will be updated based on your income declaration for 2024. This updated rate will be reflected by the DGFiP following your submission in spring 2025.

September 15: Deadline for Tax Balance Payments

September 15 marks the deadline for making any remaining payments on your income tax balance. Should the DGFiP require additional payments despite your prior contributions throughout 2024, this is when you’ll need to settle up. Remember, for online payments, the cutoff is September 20, with withdrawals beginning from your bank account on September 25. If your balance exceeds 300 euros, the DGFiP will divide the payment into four installments due on September 25, October 27, November 27, and December 29, 2024.
