Espionage: France announces the expulsion of six Russian agents

Six Russian agents were expelled from France, reports journalist Ben Barnier, in duplex, Tuesday, April 12, from the headquarters of the General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI) in Levallois-Perret (Hauts-de-Seine). “These are six Russian intelligence agents, they operated in France under diplomatic cover. (…) These six spies are now considered persona non grata on French soil“, specifies the journalist. The announcement was made, Monday, April 11, by the Quai d’Orsay.

The DGSI investigated for several months to track down the agents. “It all started with an attempt by one of these Russian agents to buy information from a Frenchman”, reports Ben Barnier. According to the Quai d’Orsay, the agents used “very elaborate methods”. Their clandestine activities were considered contrary to the interests of France. “Last Monday, already 35 Russian diplomats had been expelled for activities also deemed contrary to French interests”recalls the journalist.
