Escort service | Operation Red Nose begins the final sprint of its 39th campaign

(Montreal) New Year’s revelers can still count on the volunteers of Operation Red Nose to drive them home.

The escort services of the 39e The organization’s annual campaign will end Saturday on New Year’s Eve, one of the busiest nights for Operation Red Nose call centers.

“Often in mid-December, we still have a good blitz with Christmas parties and family get-togethers starting. But the 31 [décembre] remains a timeless classic for Nez rouge. The telephone does not ring off the hook in our power stations, ”says the director of communications for the non-profit organization, Marilyn Vigneault, in an interview.

The organization is also still looking for volunteers to close this last evening of accompaniment. It’s not too late to register, says Mme Vigneault.

Dozens of communities in Quebec are served by Opération Nez rouge, which invites the population to visit its website, operationnezrouge.com, to check the opening hours of the power plant in its area and request a ride.

Volunteers allow people who have drunk alcohol at a party during the holiday season to be brought home safely, with their car.

More than 16,000 people were able to benefit from the services of some 14,000 Operation Red Nose volunteers during the first four weekends of activities in 2022, from November 25 to December 18, specifies Mr.me Vigneault.

The organization will present next Tuesday a complete report of its 39e year. Operation Red Nose, however, evokes not having returned to its pre-pandemic number of rides.

“The context is not the same. In 2019, we had more regions that were in operation. Some of them also had more evenings on the calendar,” explains Ms.me Vigneault.

She still felt a return to the “Red Nose reflex” after a break in 2020 and a partial recovery in 2021 due to the health crisis.

“With more than 16,000 accompaniments as a partial assessment, it is very satisfactory since an accompaniment is an accident potentially avoided”, she maintains.

Motorists who want a ride are invited to use the Operation Red Nose mobile application or call 1-866-DESJARDINS.

All funds raised as part of the support campaign will be distributed to local organizations related to youth or amateur sports.
