Ernest Pignon-Ernest had designed his first collages in a abandoned café of Méthamis (Vaucluse) in 1966. The French plastic artist was elected Wednesday November 24 at the Academy of Fine Arts in place of the painter and engraver Vladimir Veličković. He will sit in chair VII of the Painting section.

Aged 79, Ernest Pignon-Ernest is considered one of the precursors of Street Art in France. His productions are exhibited in numerous museums and galleries, at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, at the Neue Pinakothek in Munich, or at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Beijing.
In 2019, 400 works by Ernest Pignon Ernest were exhibited at the Palais des Papes and then at the Chapelle des Célestins in Avignon.
