Five months before the 2022 presidential election, Éric Zemmour went to competitive territory, in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region, chaired by Laurent Wauquiez (LR). The one who has still not officially announced his candidacy seduces disappointed voters.
Éric Zemmour competes with the Republicans on their own territory. Among his supporters in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region, many are those who voted for François Fillon in 2017. Some supporters of the Republicans no longer believe in their party. “There is a gap between words and actions (…) This is why today there are more and more people from the classical right (…) who come to Éric Zemmour”, confides one of the supporters present at the meeting.
These new supporters are indifferent to the conviction for incitement to racial hatred that their new hero has already received. A survey reveals that 24% of the voters of François Fillon affirm that they would vote for Eric Zemmour in 2022. Within the party The Republicans, some attack the polemicist, others ignore him, while a small part affirms to him their support, like Gérard Dezempte, the mayor of Charvieu-Chavagneux (Isère) where the meeting takes place.
