The Republican political bureau decided, unanimously, to exclude its president, Eric Ciotti, from the party on Wednesday June 12, the day after his appeal to ally with the National Rally for the early legislative elections. “Leading secret negotiations, (…) Eric Ciotti is in total break with the line taken” by LR, declared Annie Genevard, general secretary of LR, during a press conference after the meeting. She was named interim president of the party, and will be assisted by François-Xavier Bellamy, who led her list for the European elections.

“The meeting organized this afternoon was carried out in flagrant violation of our statutes, replied Eric Ciotti in a message posted on X. None of the decisions taken at this meeting have any legal consequences. It may have criminal consequences.” “I am and remain the president of our political party, elected by the members”he added.

The Alpes-Maritimes deputy sent an email to party activists on Wednesday, inviting them to support “the gathering of the rights”. “By opening the way to an alliance capable of bringing together all French people who share true right-wing values, I know that I have carried the voice of a majority of you”he wrote on X, claiming more than 10,000 signatures of support.
