The news of a possible alliance between the Republicans and the National Rally divides. Tuesday June 11, several LR executives dissociate themselves from Eric Ciotti’s comments.

Tuesday June 11, at the headquarters of the Republicans (LR), Éric Ciotti is questioned by members of the UEJF, the union of Jewish students in France. Earlier in the day, with a view to the legislative elections, the president of the LR party announced a “alliance with the National Rally”. An LR/RN alliance marks the end of the cordon santé with the far right, which is more than 50 years old. The vast majority of the party’s leaders have abandoned Éric Ciotti, like Laurent Wauquiez and around ten LR executives.

“He cannot remain, of course, at the head of the party,” assures Bruno Retailleau, president of the LR group in the Senate. On social networks, the President of the Senate, Gérard Larcher, writes: “I believe that he can no longer preside over our movement”. For some, Éric Ciotti’s decision can be explained by his situation in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes). Sunday June 9, in the European elections, the LR list came sixth, far behind the RN.
