A few dozen pro-Palestinian activists took part in a sit-ins inside a Scotiabank branch in Montreal, before being arrested on Monday.

The occupants trickle out of the Scotia Tower, escorted by peace officers. The operation takes place calmly.

At the same time, dozens of other demonstrators made their protests heard in the streets of the city center.

The incident forced the closure of a segment of Sherbrooke Street between Peel and University Streets, complicating automobile traffic in the area.

Protesters accuse the financial institution of investing hundreds of millions of dollars in an Israeli defense company.

“There has to be an impact, people are dying in Gaza. It’s not just the bombings. There’s no water coming in, no food. Children are dying of starvation,” denounced a demonstrator.

The demonstrators had occupied the Scotia Tower since 10:30 a.m. Monday morning, for nearly three hours. Numerous police officers were dispatched to the scene.
