Emmanuel Macron will not go to the march against anti-Semitism, the Elysée informed franceinfo on Friday November 10. At the initiative of the presidents of the Senate and the National Assembly, Gérard Larcher and Yaël Braun-Pivet, a “great civic march” against anti-Semitism is planned in Paris on Sunday November 12.

“The President of the Republic has tirelessly fought all forms of anti-Semitism since day one”insists the Elysée. “That rallies are coming, all over France, to relay this fight is a reason for hope. This is why the president greets with respect those who, on Sunday, will march for the Republic, against anti-Semitism and for the release of the hostages” , continues the Elysée.

Many political figures expected

The march is due to take place on Sunday at 3 p.m. from the Esplanade des Invalides to the Luxembourg Palace, seat of the Senate. Many political figures are expected at this gathering. The Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, confirmed that she would participate. Former presidents François Hollande and Nicolas Sarkozy will also be present. Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s party, for its part, announced that it would not respond to the invitation. La France insoumise invites those who wish to do so on Saturday in Paris for a “march against the war”.

Note that from a security point of view, this demonstration is worrying. “There will be almost the entire government, public figures. We will be on edge”confided on franceinfo Jean-Christophe Couvy, national secretary SGP Police-FO. “More than 3,000 police and gendarmes” will be mobilized in Paris to secure the march, the Minister of the Interior announced on BFMTV on Friday.
