“Nothing is written.” Emmanuel Macron’s campaign team released a first video of the president in his presidential candidate clothes on Friday, March 4. The outgoing president formalized his candidacy on Thursday in a “Letter to the French” broadcast by the regional press. In this four-minute clip, Emmanuel Macron assures us that he will “convincing, proposing, being attacked and responding to controversy” until the election on April 10 and 24. He judges that the ballot is not “at all bent”despite polls in his favour.
This clip was shot at the Elysée, learned the political service of France Televisions from the entourage of Emmanuel Macron, but the images were filmed in his personal office. Anticipating possible criticism of this double role, his team responds that he is, in this video, “in the process of writing the letter, therefore not yet a candidate, therefore by definition president at the Elysée”. The candidate’s team borrows the codes of television series shot “handheld camera” with close-ups of the face of a candidate who speaks without looking at the lens. The format too is borrowed from the platforms: a new clip must be published every Friday until the election.
In a letter, Emmanuel Macron calls on LREM activists and the majority to mobilize “in every village, every town” because, he explains, “The international context, marked by the war in Europe, will unfortunately not allow me to campaign as I would have liked”. They are notably called upon to start distributing some 2.5 million leaflets this weekend. Emmanuel Macron should make a first trip Monday afternoon to Ile-de-France on education. But the Russian-Ukrainian conflict obviously disturbs the organization of the campaign team.
