On the occasion of the commemorations of the Rafle du Vel d’Hiv, Emmanuel Macron gave a speech against rampant anti-Semitism, Sunday July 17. The Head of State inaugurated a new place of memory, in Pithiviers, in the Loiret.

Emmanuel Macron’s trip to Pithiviers (Loiret), Sunday July 17, began with a visit to the exhibition. The Head of State discovered poignant photographs of the first mass arrest of Jews in France, on May 14, 1941. From this Pithiviers station, a total of eight convoys left for the extermination camps, in 1942, taking with them 8,400 deportees.

Commemorating the Vel d’Hiv Roundup in this new place of memory, Emmanuel Macron delivered an offensive speech against anti-Semitism, which is “even hotter, creepier than it was in 1995”. The President then attacked historical revisionism, which he also considers to be back. For her part, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne attended the traditional ceremony on the site of the former Vélodrome d’Hiver in Paris.
