Emmanuel Macron will travel to Lyon to pay tribute to Jean Moulin on Monday May 8. The Head of State will notably visit the cell of the resistance fighter, imprisoned in the Montluc prison. This visit will take place under very close surveillance in order to avoid any outcry from opponents of the pension reform.

On the afternoon of Monday May 8, Emmanuel Macron will travel to Lyon to pay tribute to Jean Moulin and the heroes of the Resistance. “The Lyon court confirmed it this morning. This appeal by the CGT against the ban on demonstrations near the [mémorial national de la prison de Montluc] was successfully rejected”, indicates Guillaume Daret, live from Lyon, Monday, May 8. He is pointing out that “several politicians felt that this May 8 is not the day to hold this type of demonstration” against pension reform.

A “spirit of resistance”

In Lyon, Emmanuel Macron will pay tribute to Jean Moulin. The latter was detained in the Montluc prison. “He is not the only one to have passed here. There was the intellectual Marc Bloch or the ‘children of Izieu’. These children who were then deported to Nazi extermination camps. In 1983, the one who was the head of the local Gestapo, Klaus Barbie, symbolically spent a week here”, explains the journalist. Emmanuel Macron is expected at 2:30 p.m., he should greet “this spirit of resistance, specific to the French people”.
