Education: Emmanuel Macron announces a reform of teacher training

Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday April 5 that the school teaching competition will be at Bac+3 instead of Bac+5. It is a reform envisaged as a remedy to the serious recruitment crisis in National Education.

Emmanuel Macron went to the classroom of a Parisian school, Friday April 5, for a time of exchange with CE2 students. The Head of State first came to address teachers, he announced a reform of their initial training. “The system that we adopted in recent decades was undoubtedly not the best”, he conceded. Preparation licenses for school teaching will be available after the baccalaureate. Another change: the competition to become a school teacher will no longer be taken after five years of study but at the end of the three years of license.

Make the profession more attractive

The successful students will then enter a professional master’s degree. “This will allow us to properly train, better prepare and better recognize our compatriots who want to engage in this profession”, explained the President of the Republic. This is the challenge of this reform for the government: to make the teaching profession more attractive. Last year, 3,100 positions were not filled following the teacher recruitment competition.
