New call to release humanitarian aid to Gaza. French President Emmanuel Macron and King Abdullah II of Jordan on Monday, June 24, called on Israel to lift all “restrictions” land for the delivery of this aid to the Palestinian enclave, where the bombings resumed on Tuesday, assured the French presidency in a press release. During a lunch at the Elysée, the two leaders reiterated the “need to establish, without further delay, an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza and once again called for the release of all hostages”including that of two French people.
They agreed to “continue their joint work towards a lasting and credible solution to the crisis on the basis of the two-state solution”. “In this perspective, the Palestinian Authority should be supported and not weakened,” they stressed, noting that “any obstacle to the transfer of its income or to its banking system was unacceptable”. They also greeted the “reforms initiated by the Palestinian government and called to continue and deepen them”.
Emmanuel Macron and Abdallah II also “expressed their deep concern about the situation in the West Bank and strongly condemned the violence committed by the settlers”, specified the Elysée. Referring to the intensification of tensions on the Israeli-Lebanese border, they warned of a “conflagration which would be catastrophic for the region”and reiterated their calls to all parties to “responsibility and restraint”.
