During his first term, the re-elected president had to deal with a number of protests, from yellow vests to confinement and the hospital crisis.

It is the social crisis that will have shaken Emmanuel Macron’s first five-year term. In the fall of 2018, the yellow vests take over the roundabouts, demonstrate against the rise in fuel prices, inequalities and the decline in purchasing power. Some manifestations degenerate. Symbol, the sacking of the Arc de Triomphe. Scenes of urban guerrilla warfare and sometimes police violence. The situation is explosive. To extinguish the fire, the President of the Republic loosened ballast, announced a series of social measures and launched the great debate to renew dialogue with the French.

But in December 2019, the pension reform put part of France back on the streets. The Prime Minister must use 49.3 to have his reform adopted. Finally it is the Covid-19 and the containment which will stop it. Containment, which has its heroes: caregivers, to whom the government promises wage increases. Not enough to extinguish the public hospital crisis, which will have persisted throughout the five-year term.
