In France, you have to wait an average of 65 days before getting an appointment at the town hall to renew your identity papers. Emergency centers have been set up to shorten these delays.

On the eve of summer, waiting times to renew your passport explode in France. On average, it takes 65 days to get an appointment at the town hall. In Besançon (Doubs), an emergency center was opened to issue identity cards and passports. It should make it possible to catch up on the backlog accumulated during the health crisis and welcomes around a hundred people a day.

About thirty centers of this type have been set up throughout the country. Retired people, job seekers and students welcome the public. The town hall has adapted and has planned to install a drive to allow residents to quickly collect their papers. “People will come and collect their papers very very quickly: one driveway and we leave with the title”, explains Benoît Vuillemin, mayor (LREM) of Saône (Doubs). The emergency system is in place for three months.
